The National

Posted by Lindsey on Thursday | October 21, 2010 | 2:38 pm

I feel like every other post is about a concert Kevin and I went to, and I’m okay with that. Because we saw The National! It was awesome! We saw them at the Pomona Fox Theater, which was on the smaller side of the venue scale. We got there really early, were good and close, and enjoyed. I loved watching them perform. I will say for being a band that has a vocalist with a deep voice and generally mellow music, the lead singer was a SHOW. I thought I was just watching him have a mental breakdown right before my eyes. Pacing, punching his hands together, leaving his head over the drums and just looking out into the crowd with a searching look. I hope it was just his stage presence, but either way it kept your attention. I thought they were unbelievable live, and it is always fun to experience the music Kevin and I love together.

Vampire Weekend and Beach House

This concert was unbelievable. It was at the Hollywood Bowl, which just made it that much more unbelievable. These bands are up there on Kev’s list, so watching him enjoy was probably what I enjoyed the most. This was the second time we saw beach house, and they have gotten way bigger since then. But she still sings while throwing her hair around into her face, which matches the awesomeness of her music. And vampire weekend kept us on our feet. We were entertained, danced and fell in love with their music all over again. Simply unbelievable.

Ray & David Gray

It is true, Tuesday night Linds and I were fortunate enough to attend the Ray Lamontagne & David Gray concert. It was good, neither of them are my favorites but I knew Linds really wanted to go…so what else was I supposed to do in my second month of marriage? I really enjoyed Ray even though listening to music is kind of like listening to an angel sing while a huge hairy dude sits on your shoulders and breathes heavily in your ear (okay, it not that bad but his voice is so breathy!). David Gray has a few songs that I really enjoy but, as Lindsey said, he was worth it just for his crazy head shaking and dancing around.

I’ll probably have more to say about concerts soon since Linds got us tickets (maybe as a return surprise) to see Vampire Weekend, Beach House and The Very Best! I love all three of those bands so I’m super excited!

Ray LaMontagne and David Gray Concert

This was unbelievable. Ray was awesome no doubt, but it was all about the David Gray for me. I  definitely wanted to see him before I died, and Kevin surprised me with tickets, shortly after vocalizing my wish. If you haven’t seen David Gray perform live, go. It’s worth it just see see his stompy legs and out of control head motions. Not to mention the music, at one point I think I almost cried it was so good.

Before the concert at will call, we ran into the Modern Family dudes. As they were walking by I asked for a picture, and Cam said they really had to be going. I replied, “It’s fine, it’s really just enough to see you.” And I swear I got a chuckle out of Phil from that. I can also cross off my bucket list get rejected by Cam, make Phil laugh and be ignored by the red one.
