A Lot of Lately

Posted by Lindsey on Tuesday | November 1, 2011 | 3:52 pm

Really this post should have been like 5 separate posts a little more spread out, but this better reflects how busy Kev and I are these days. Things just get packed together!

From top to bottom.

1. Rachel’s bachelorette weekend. A weekend away with the ladies was wonderful.

2. Dear friends Rachel and Scott’s wedding! So fun to have a mini reunion with everyone and to celebrate the couple!

3. Hanging with the fam, loving time with the neice and nephews.

4. Halloween weekend! Though I have midterms and papers galore due this week, I managed to sneak out for a party break with heather and deb.

5. Last night, Halloween at Candyland! The kids were all too precious. Something about adoring their little outfits and their out of control excitement makes this holiday such a fun one.

And in other exciting news…I got into the Soul Care program this past week and Kevin to the 3 week retreat. Looking forward to what God has for us in the future!

Whew! A lot happening over here.

Brother’s Bday

Posted by Lindsey on Friday | October 7, 2011 | 1:36 pm

I have ruined a lot of birthdays in my day. I have ruined Andrew’s twice. The first time without even being at his party, I sent a card saying, “Happy birthday, have fun ice skating!”, later to find the party was a surprise. I ruined Andrew’s the next year as well, but for some reason I can’t remember how.  Ruined it and don’t even remember how, nice. I do remember swearing I would never ruin another one of his birthdays again. Now around Andrew’s birthday I try not to say anything that I haven’t heard spoken in front of Andrew. Another time, Cathy asked me to go out and buy 12 candles for Cassie. Totally forgetting it was her birthday, I went to target and bought 12 scented small candles. She laughed for so long, and by the time she was done laughing it was time to blow out her candles, all 12 strawberry scented decorative candles. And in true form, I “ruined” my brother’s birthday. I remembered the cake, but forgot the trick candles on the counter that I had bought for little bro. Typical. However, running around the house to gather 20 household candles with my sister turned out to be a great memory. The heat from the candles was serious, and I am pretty sure it took my brother close to 20 breaths to get the candles out.  It was a nice celebration and send off, for another year at U of O.

I already miss him.

Nationball

Posted by Lindsey on Wednesday | October 5, 2011 | 10:07 am

Was, yes, quite some time ago. But better late than never! (Or better than Kev’s twice a year posts, OH SNAP!) Nationball is Biola’s all dorm dodgeball competition. It was our first opportunity to go to an all dorm activity with the guys of Emerson. Emerson, being the smallest of the dorms, is more concerned about the theatrical aspect of nationball than the competition. While some dorms thrive on the competition, strive for victory and even have some sort of strategy, sweet Emerson prefers to be the most theatrical. Emerson had every student bring a newspaper, and would read as other dorms were announced. They were obviously just bored with the other dorms. They also had a student act as the president, and had many of the guys dress up as CIA agents to protect Mr. President. The CIA costumes consiting of taping ipod ear buds to your head and playing in a suit. Classic. There was a boy who just played one song on the saxophone, yes he brought his saxophone, throughout the entire competition. Other highlights include the floor who dressed up as ninjas and of course the nurses. The nurses, instead of playing, would help fallen comrades. When someone would get hit with a ball, they would fall down dead. When I “died”, I had about 15 boys around me. I was laying on the gym floor, as red balls whizzed around our head. The nurses checked my eyes with a light, checked my teeth and dragged me off the court. I saw other nurses who had defibrillators, stethoscopes and IV bags. It was incredible. As I got out of the way, laughing, I realized someone had put a fresh band aid on my knee. I am pretty sure I laughed through the whole thing. I LOVE the boys of Emerson, they are just too much. And though we didn’t win the competition, no one out did us in theatrics.

Emerson

Posted by Kevin on Wednesday | July 13, 2011 | 12:49 pm

This Friday we move into a new apartment, our second home and a home to men. Emerson is an all male dorm at Biola University. All male except for Lindsey of course, so we are accepting suggestions for what her title should be. So far we’re thinking “the First Lady of Emerson” could work.

I can’t believe that it’s already time to move and to start a new job, summer is over! It was incredible (as I’m sure Lindsey will tell you over there —>) but I’m so excited to begin my life as the RD of Emerson and for the RAs to come back and then all the men a couple weeks after that. August is going to be a busy month getting ready for classes to start so I might disappear for a few weeks but I promise I’ll be back. This Monday I start my first day so I’ll have a much better idea of what lies ahead of me whatever it I’m sure it will be exciting and exhausting.

What a dream come true.
